The Boy Most Likely To // Book Review
Yesterday I finished reading The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick.
I was really looking forward to reading this book, I've read two other books by this author (which I really enjoyed!), one of which was My Life Next Door.
The Young Adult story, The Boy Most Likely To, includes the same characters as My Life Next Door, however this book's main characters are Tim Mason and Alice Garrett.
Before I begin my review of the book, here is the Goodread's synopsis:
Goodreads Synopsis:
Surprises abound and sparks ignite in the highly anticipated, utterly romantic companion to My Life Next Door.
Tim Mason was The Boy Most Likely To: - find the liquor cabinet blindfolded - need a liver transplant - drive his car into a house.
Alice Garrett was The Girl Most Likely To: - well, not date her little brother's baggage-burdened best friend, for starters.
For Tim, it wouldn't be smart to fall for Alice.
For Alice, nothing could be scarier than falling for Tim.
But Tim has never been known for making the smart choice and Alice is starting to wonder if the "smart" choice is always the right one.
When these two crash into each other, they crash hard.
Then the unexpected consequences of Tim's wild days come back to shock him. He finds himself in a situation that isn't all it appears to be, that he never could have predicted... but maybe should have. And Alice is caught in the middle.
Told in Tim's and Alice's distinctive, disarming, entirely compelling voices, this return to the world of My Life Next Door is a story about failing first, trying again, and having to decide whether to risk it all at once.
My Review
Alice Garrett is a typical teenager, with her stubborn personality and high standards. She always gets what she wants and has always been in control of her life, especially when it comes to the boys that she dates.
Tim Mason is the complete opposite, known as the rebellious teenager, frowned upon by everyone. He's an alcoholic, has taken drugs and has been kicked out of school. He can't even keep a job for more than a few days. He has given up on life, accepted the mess that he's in and is used to being a disappointment to his friends and family.
However, when Tim is given a wake up call by his father, he decides to turn his life around. By doing so, he discovers that there is more than just a friendship between himself and his best friend's sister, Alice. They both realise that in some cases, opposites do attract.
That's not where the story ends though, something major happens to both Alice and Tim. Alice is no longer in control of her life and Tim is tracked down by someone he completely forgot about.
The one thing I enjoyed most about this book is how you get to watch the characters grow into people they never thought they could be. They start off believing that what they have at that time is all they'll ever get, but when the unexpected happens you watch the characters adjust to their new lives and find out how to be themselves.
As suggested by the title, Tim Mason is 'the boy most likely to...', I like how the book started off with Tim being the boy most likely to mess up in life but gradually as the book went on, he became the boy most likely to succeed.

I had high expectations for this book, as the book before this one - My Life Next Door - was a great story. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, I felt like it was too long and some parts of the story weren't really needed.
Overall, the book is good, I am glad I read it as I love the Garrett family (they all feature in My Life Next Door). I think this book would be a nice Summer read, I just wish it was a bit shorter and more fast-paced.
I have given this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
