The Girl on the Train // Book Review
Guess what? I've finished another book! This time I finished reading The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.
I have a lot to say about this book, so writing a review will be interesting!
Here goes -
Goodreads Synopsis:
'EVERY DAY THE SAME
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
UNTIL TODAY
UNTIL TODAY
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?'
My Review:
This is the first thriller I think I've read in a very long time. Normally that would put me off books, when I think of thrillers I think of gory scenes about people dying, which I don't really enjoy reading. So if you're the same, don't worry because this book isn't like that.
This book is amazing.
Firstly, I love the writing. Paula Hawkins may have to be one of my new favourite authors. She is fantastic at writing. I felt like I knew the characters and I knew the places that the book was set in. The descriptions were great and the plot was even better.
I really enjoyed reading the book from three different perspectives - Rachel's, Megan's and Anna's.
These three people are, in some ways, very similar. They all share secrets that could ruin their happy lives.
All of those secrets come out. They all intertwine. Because of a murder.
Rachel was once an outsider, that travelled on the train every day. She would watch 'Jess' and 'Jason' through the train's windows when they stopped outside of their house. At first, it was looked as if they lived a picture perfect life until Rachel saw something happen.
Rachel was no longer an outsider.
I really, really enjoyed this book. I struggled to put the book down, I was always left wanting to read more, to find out what would happen next.
I recommend this book to everyone. At first I didn't think I would enjoy it but I loved it! It's been a while since I've finished this book and I still think about it a lot, which proves how fantastic the book is!
I have given this book a five out of five stars.

This is on my TBR list for sure. Even the movie looks like it'll be amazing. Of course I'm going to read the book first. Just have to make time for it. The struggles of being buried in ARC's. D:
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the movie! But yeah, definitely read the book first! Hahaha! x
DeleteWhat about that ending though??!!! :O The ending was amazing, how Anna and Rachel just took everything into their own hands? Loved it! I agree with you, I think it was great how all of their storied intertwined! It was really clever of Hawkins to do that.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant review!
