Shopaholic Abroad // Book Review

A couple of days ago I finished reading the second book in the Shopaholic series written by Sophie Kinsella, Shopaholic Abroad.

Just a warning - this review may contain small spoilers if you haven't read the first book in the series yet.

Title: Shopaholic Abroad by Sophie Kinsella
Format: Paperback
Pages: 351
Published by: Black Swan in 2001
Genres: Fiction, Chick Lit, Romance

Goodreads Synopsis:

'Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic Abroad will prove a big treat for fans of The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic with the irrepressible Rebecca Bloomwood, the financial journalist with the stratospheric credit card bills, returning to the high streets.

But things have changed for the impulsive shopper: "I'm a completely different person from the old Becky. I'm a reformed character. I haven't even got an overdraft!" Her high-flying boyfriend Luke has got a job in America and Becky's going with him to the land of "yellow taxi cabs and skyscrapers, and Woody Allen and Breakfast at Tiffanys"; she's also got the possibility of a television slot advising viewers on money matters.

Of course New York also has department stores, lots of them.'

My Review:

Somehow, this book was even better than Confessions of a Shopaholic, which I didn't think was possible! This is probably because we now know who Becky Bloomwood is and all about her friends, jobs and her relationship with Luke!

In this book, Luke is determined to make it big in New York and asks Becky to join him. Not only could this opportunity open up lots of new jobs for Becky, but there's also a lot of shops that she has to visit!

That's right, Becky is still addicted to shopping. She tells herself that she has to stick to a budget and nearly every time she steps into a shop the budget is forgotten about. The only problem is, these bad spending habits really aren't was a famous finance advisor needs. Becky has a good job on daytime TV giving advice to the public on how to look after their money, but it's really Becky that should be taking this advice.

One of my favourite things about this book was Becky's new relationship with Luke! I am so happy that they're together, they're just perfect for each other. I also loved how funny Becky is, she tries her hardest to impress Luke and always seems to mess up. However, this only makes Luke love Becky even more.

I was in quite a big reading slump before I started this book and since picking it up, I haven't been able to put it down! There was a lot more going on in this book, Becky has more problems that she has to face and she finally takes everything into her own hands and takes control.

I loved the ending of this book, which is something I rarely ever say! It was so perfect and made me smile. Another thing that I enjoyed was the letters written to Becky, which are after every chapter. I feel like these letters help the reader to get to know Becky even more and some of them are quite funny.

One of the best things about these books is how relatable Becky is. She isn't perfect like most fictional characters, it's as if she's real. (I wish she was!) I'll definitely be reading the next book in this series soon, I can't wait to see what Becky gets up to next.

I have given this book a four out of five stars.

You will enjoy this book if you enjoyed...
