13 Minutes // Book Review
Hello friends!
So, if you read my last post, you would know that I have been going through a lot lately, but let me just tell you, when people say there's a light at the end of the tunnel, it's true - but that's for another post! The one thing that has helped me most this year is reading, it is such a great form of escaping the problems we have in life. This book - 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough - has been a great help.
Here is my (mini) review:
Title: 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough
Format: Paperback
Pages: 404
Published by: Orion Books
Genres: Young Adult, Mystery, Thriller, Crime
'I was dead for 13 minutes.
I don't remember how I ended up in the icy water but I do know this - it wasn't an accident and I wasn't suicidal.
They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you're a teenage girl, it's hard to tell them apart. My friends love me, I'm sure of it. But that doesn't mean they didn't try to kill me. Does it?'

13 Minutes follows a few different people, or rather, suspects. The main character being Tasha, the teenage girl that was dead for 13 minutes.
Tasha is pulled out of the icy cold river early one morning and brought back to life, after being dead for 13 minutes. She begins to lose trust for everyone she once cared about, the question constantly playing on her mind, how did she end up in the river?
She is the hot topic of her neighbourhood, everyone is desperate to know what happened and with the question slowly but surely eating away at Tasha's brain she takes actions into her own hands to find out the truth.
Whilst reading this book, I myself was questioning every character's actions, even Tasha's. When she resorts to getting back in contact with her old friend Becca, her whole world is turned upside down with distrust and with the wild twists thrown in this story I was forever changing my opinion on how the story would end. Let me tell you now, the ending is superbly dramatic.
The author relayed the attitudes of teenage girls in a way that most books don't, there aren't any rainbows and unicorns in this book, it's 2017 teenage life, amplified into a murder mystery.
It has to be said, this book swept me away with it's intense and suspenseful storyline, I was completely unable to put it down. I fell in love with the format of this book, it was told from not only Tasha's perspective but Becca's and the diary/case studies. It was truly as if I was living this story alongside Tasha and that is a sign that yes, this was a very good book.
So much so, it has now been leant out to my friends, I want everyone to read it! As long as I get my book back, there's now a gap on my bookshelf...
