Can You Keep A Secret? // Book Review

Hello friends!

How are you all? I cannot believe that it is December! December is by far one of my favourite months, not only because of Christmas but my birthday too!

Anyway, last night I finished reading Can You Keep a Secret? by my all time favourite author, Sophie Kinsella. And oh my days, did I love this book! To the point where my boyfriend (hey Sean!) was round and I chose reading over spending time with him... I'm not even sorry.

Here is my review:

Title: Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

Format: Paperback

Pages: 364

Published by: Black Swan

Genres: Chick Lit, Romance, Fiction, Contemporary, Humour

'Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets: Secrets from her boyfriend: I've always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken. Secrets from her mother: I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur. Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world: I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.

Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.…Until Emma comes face-to-face with Jack Harper, the company's elusive CEO, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her...'

I loved this book. And when I say 'loved' I mean 'luuuurved'.

It follows Emma, an ordinary young adult trying to make her way in this world. Just like any other person, Emma has secrets. Some that she is really ashamed of, some that simply just made me burst into a fit of giggles! One day, whilst coming back from an utterly dreadful meeting, the plane she is travelling on hits turbulence and she freaks out and reveals all of her secrets to the handsome man sat next to her. Little did she know that this man would appear at work the next day.

“Mummy always told me, you should never let a man see your feelings or the contents of your handbag.”

Emma has to learn to trust this man, that knows all of her darkest secrets, however some hurdles are thrown in the way and she has to learn to overcome her fears. One of them being the secrets that she holds from her perfect, Barbie doll boyfriend. No, he isn't called Ken.

I have never laughed so much whilst reading before, this book was simply hilarious! This is why I love Sophie Kinsella, she writes the perfect books to snuggle up and read after a long day, her books never fail to cheer me up!

“Emma, I'm sorry, I can't help you. This is a disaster. You're completely vulnerable. It's like going into battle in a nightie.”

Her characters are always so real, they go through everything any other person would experience. Apart from those humiliating scenarios, I really hope no one else goes through them on a daily basis.

Emma - Oh Emma, you may be one of my new favourite characters. She made me laugh so much. I related to Emma in so many ways, it's a bit embarrassing! She is trying her hardest to get a promotion at the Panther Cooperation, but no matter how hard she tries something always goes wrong. One of those problems being the gentleman that knows all of her secrets.

Jack - As one of the owners of the Panther Cooperation, everyone is in awe of this multi-billionaire. He is used to everyone going along with what he says without complaint, which is what draws him to Emma, she stands out from the rest in this company. Jack himself is full of secrets, but he is awful at sharing them, he finds it difficult to trust people. But gosh, he is a fantastic character!

Lissy - Lissy is that perfect best friend that everyone could do with. I wouldn't mind having Lissy in my life! She is always there for Emma, even when she finds out something rather embarrassing later in the book.

Jemima - This is another one of my favourite characters, I have a friend just like Jemima and the resemblance made me giggle a lot. She is so bold and independent, the comments that she came out with were hilarious!

I gave this book a 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I also own most of Sophie Kinsella's other books, so I cannot wait to read them too!
