Cress // Book Review

I have been trying my best to savour The Lunar Chronicles series over these past few years, it takes a lot of effort to not binge read the whole series in one sitting! I am so relieved to say that these books just keep on getting better as they go on. I've just finished Cress, the third book in the chronicles and loved every second of it.

You can find my reviews for the first two books here (Bear in mind these reviews were written a fair few years ago, so you'll be reading a young Em's perspective on these books 😂)

Here is my review for Cress by Marissa Meyer:

Title: Cress by Marissa Meyer

Format: Kindle eBook

Pages: 550 pages

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Romance

Synopsis

Incarcerated in a satellite, an expert hacker and out to save the world - Cress isn't your usual damsel in distress.
CRESS grew-up as a prisoner. With only netscreens for company she's forced to do the bidding of the evil Queen Levana. Now that means tracking down Cinder and her handsome accomplice Emperor Kai. But little does Levana know that those she seeks, and the man she loves, are plotting her downfall . . .
As paths cross and the price of freedom rises, happily ever after has never seemed further away for Cress, Scarlet and Cinder.

This is not the fairy tale you remember. But it's one you won't forget.

“You can help me pick out a tiara when we’re done saving the world.”

If you enjoyed the first two books in the series, you will adore this one. The book begins with the introduction of a new and soon-to-be well loved character, Cress. Cress has spent most of her life cooped up in a satellite, using her software and computer skills to hack into security systems to please her evil Lunar Queen. Queen Levana.

Cress has been following Cinder and her accomplices since their story hit the news like wildfire. The most wanted and dangerous criminals in the Earthen world. After discovering who the true heir to Luna is, Cinder and her friends are determined to stop Emperor Kai and Queen Levana's wedding, even if it starts a war.

After Cinder, Thorne, Scarlet, Wolf and Iko resorted to go into hiding up in space on the Rampion, Thorne's stolen ship, Cress made the decision to go against everything that she should believe in as a Lunar and worked tirelessly hiding the ship from all coordinates on maps, doing what she can to keep the rebellious team safe, without them knowing she existed. And when she isn't doing that, she's finding out all that she can about Thorne, her ultimate crush.

When the opportunity arises for Cress to join the people she has been secretly fascinating over for so long, she snatches it. This brings the story into full swing causing lots of epic drama and action. The twists that accompany and follow this event are so unexpected, you won't be able to put the book down.

Lots of new relationships were built in this book and I loved it. My favourite by far has to be the relationship between Thorne and Cress. The awkward moments, jokes and brutal comments made the friendship so real and relatable, I couldn't help but chuckle.

“I promise, I will not let you die without being kissed.”

After a fast paced book? This one should suffice! I started flying through it once I hit the middle of the story, unable to put it down. You start to get really invested in the characters and the worlds created when reading this third book in the series. Everything that Marissa Meyer has created comes together so well and the writing just keeps getting better.

I was so pleased with what this book added to The Lunar Chronicles world, I can't wait to pick up the last book, Winter. After seeing that Winter is a grand total of 827 pages long, I'm expecting a lot of cliffhangers and questions to finally be solved.

Rating this book was a no brainer for me. I gave Cress 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

What will I read next?

I've decided to mix up my normal reads a bit by picking up a historical fiction, something that I haven't done in a while. I'm a bit late to the trend but I have finally started reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. I've heard nothing but good reviews for this book, so my expectations are high! Keep an eye out for a review coming as soon as I finish it.
